WILMINGTON, DE – The American Solidarity Party (ASP) has officially expanded its East Coast footprint, formally recognizing the Conservative Party of Delaware as its newest state affiliate. In a statement released March 4, 2026, ASP National Committee Chair Jack Ternan announced the conclusion of a month-long administrative process that brings the Delaware organization under the national party’s “Common Good” banner.

The affiliation process began in earnest on January 19, 2026, when the ASP National Committee adopted a resolution outlining the specific conditions for the Delaware party’s entry. Following a party congress and a meeting of the Delaware Central Committee, state leadership, led by James Sloven formally executed an affiliation agreement on February 27. The move marks a significant ideological stabilization for a party that had one of the more peculiar origins in Delaware political history.

While the party is now aligned with the ASP’s platform of Christian Democratic values and social solidarity, it reached the ballot in a manner described as “almost accidental.” In 2024, former Libertarian activist Will McVay noticed that the Conservative Party had met Delaware’s ballot-qualification threshold, 0.1% of total state registration without any organized effort or central leadership. Hundreds of Delaware voters had spontaneously checked “Conservative” on their registration cards, inadvertently creating a qualified political body.

McVay took the reins of this “spontaneous” party in late 2024, initially leading it in a decidedly different direction. During the 2024 election cycle, the party famously ran performance artist Vermin Supreme for President, alongside Jonathan Realz for Vice President and Jon Roe for State Senate. At the time, the party served more as a vehicle for disaffected Libertarians than as a traditional conservative organization.

The transition from the satirical and libertarian-leaning roots of 2024 to a formal affiliation with the American Solidarity Party in 2026 represents a major shift in the party’s internal culture. Under the current leadership of James Sloven, the Conservative Party of Delaware has moved away from its early freewheeling identity to embrace the ASP’s specific blend of pro-life, pro-labor, and anti-interventionist policies.

In his announcement, Ternan praised the “hard work” of Sloven and his committee in navigating the transition. For the American Solidarity Party, the addition of a pre-qualified ballot line in Delaware provides a strategic advantage for the 2026 and 2028 election cycles, transforming a spontaneous registration fluke into a formal platform for the national Solidarity movement.
