Statement Issued Days After Fatal Shooting of Alex Pretti
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Forward Party has officially condemned the “dangerous overreach” by federal immigration officials in Minneapolis, calling for calm leadership and the protection of constitutional rights. However, the statement, released late Monday, drew criticism from some online observers for its perceived delay in addressing a crisis that had already prompted immediate and forceful responses from other third parties over the weekend.
In its official statement, the party mourned the deaths of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, framing the violence as a symptom of a “broader erosion of the rule of law.” The message appeared to be tailor made to match the party’s brand of de-escalation and constitutionalism, calling on its members to “lower the temperature” and “engage their elected leaders constructively.”
The party highlighted the violation of core constitutional protections, including free speech, lawful assembly, and the Second Amendment, and offered a key policy endorsement. “We support efforts by Governor Walz and Mayor Frey to remove ICE from the streets of Minneapolis and restore public confidence,” the statement read.
While the message was clear, its timing was not. The statement appeared more than two days after the killing of Alex Pretti, a period during which the Party for Socialism and Liberation, the Green Party, and numerous Libertarian state affiliates had already issued strong condemnations and calls to action, including the push for a nationwide general strike. This led to some minor online criticism that the Forward Party, in its effort to be measured and avoid “escalating rhetoric,” appeared slow to react to a moment of acute national outrage.
The party’s call for calm and constructive dialogue places it in stark contrast to the more confrontational stances of other third-party movements, joining that of the American Solidarity Party’s statement.
