INDIANAPOLIS, IN — The Libertarian Mises Caucus (LPMC), the caucus famously known for its 2022 “Reno Revolution” takeover of the Libertarian Party and its emphasis on paleolibertarianism and “anti-woke” messaging, has released a statement addressing the recent fatal shootings by federal agents in Minneapolis.
While the Caucus acknowledged the threat to civil liberties posed by federal overreach, it simultaneously distanced itself from the growing Anti-ICE movement led by left-wing organizations.
“Naturally, we are gravely concerned that ICE is abusing civil liberties and recognize that any fed overreach should be curtailed,” the Caucus stated on Sunday. However, the LPMC characterized the current left-wing response as a “smokescreen” for a broader political agenda.
The statement accused leftist organizers of using the unrest to promote “open borders,” the erasure of the 14th Amendment’s citizenship clause, and the “importing of voting blocs to rig elections.” The Caucus further alleged that these efforts are part of a push toward “global citizenship” and “one-world government.”
The LPMC’s position highlights the ongoing friction within the third-party space. While the Green Party and the Party for Socialism and Liberation have called for the destruction of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in response to the Trump administration’s “Operation Metro Surge,” the Mises Caucus is advocating for a different set of priorities.
“No to statism—domestic OR supranational,” the statement continued. “Secure borders voluntarily, end welfare magnets, restore election integrity. Liberty demands vigilance.”
This statement comes as the Libertarian Party continues to navigate its post-McArdle identity. By condemning both federal police misconduct and the motives of left-wing activists, the Mises Caucus is seemingly attempting a “third way” course that appeals to its base of decentralists and social conservatives.
The LPMC’s focus on “voluntary” border security reflects its long-standing departure from the “open borders” platform historically associated with the Libertarian Party prior to the 2022 convention. As the situation in Minneapolis remains volatile, the LPMC’s rhetoric suggests that while they oppose the tactics of the Trump administration’s federal agents, they remain ideologically opposed to the coalitions currently leading the resistance on the ground.
