TRENTON, NJ – The New Jersey Libertarian Party (NJLP) has issued a forceful condemnation of the Trump administration’s immigration policies, calling for the immediate abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and ICE Director Todd Lyons.
In a statement released Monday, January 26, the party described the current situation as “nothing less than the creation of an American police state,” citing the “summary-execution of two American citizens in Minnesota” and the creation of “Gulag-like detainment facilities.” The NJLP is demanding the arrest of the ICE agents involved in the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
“Any pretext about the safety and security of the American people and its national borders was lost the moment that ICE agents targeted American citizens and aimed to strip us of our constitutional rights,” the statement reads. “This is blatant and definitional authoritarianism, which we deny completely.”
The NJLP’s stance is part of a broader, nationwide response from Libertarian state affiliates. Members of the Libertarian Party of Georgia have said criticism of Pretti being armed at the protest is contrary to the Second Amendment and characterized the Minneapolis ICE action as extreme government overreach.
The sentiment is echoed across other states. The Libertarian Party of Louisiana posted an image on X featuring a Gadsden flag with the words “Abolish ICE,” and the Libertarian Party of West Virginia has also passed a resolution regarding recent ICE actions and the protection of Second Amendment rights.
The New Jersey statement, signed by Chair Bruno Pereira, grounds its demands in core libertarian principles, rejecting the “casual dismissal of human value by the fearmongering of our elected officials.”

The New Jersey Libertarian Party Calls for the Immediate Abolition of ICE, and the Impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and ICE Director Todd Lyons
Since President Trump’s return to office, he has greatly expanded the scope of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s authority. The result has been nothing less than the creation of an American police state. We have seen our friends, neighbors and family members illegally detained, threatened at gunpoint, prevented from seeing visitors or lawyers, and deported without due process of law. Further, we have seen the summary-execution of two American citizens in Minnesota and the creation of Gulag-like detainment facilities. These heinous acts are blatant violations of the United States Constitution, our individual rights, the ideals of this nation and the sworn duty our President made at his inauguration.
In light of the intolerable crimes against the American people, we of the New Jersey Libertarian Party call for the immediate abolition of ICE, for the arrest of the accused ICE agents involved in the killing of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, and for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and ICE Director Todd Lyons. We also call on Congress to reassert its constitutional authority and wrest power away from an already bloated executive branch.
We Libertarians are firm in our commitment to the preservation of the inherent individual rights of all, regardless of race, creed, color or country of origin. We wholly reject the casual dismissal of human value by the fearmongering of our elected officials. Any pretext about the safety and security of the American people and its national borders was lost the moment that ICE agents targeted American citizens and aimed to strip us of our constitutional rights. This is blatant and definitional authoritarianism, which we deny completely. No imagined threats from foreigners, nor the promise of financial gain justifies what is happening in our country. In the immortal words of Benjamin Franklin, “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
In Liberty,
The New Jersey Libertarian Party
