WASHINGTON D.C. — The Libertarian National Committee (LNC) has passed a formal resolution demanding the immediate release of Islam “Izzy” Aly, a Florida resident and business owner who has been held in a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) detention facility since December 22, 2025.

The resolution, which passed with a 12-2 vote via an email ballot, condemns the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) and the DHS, and calls for the abolition of both federal agencies.

According to the text of the resolution, Mr. Aly, an electrical engineer and graduate of the University of Central Florida, was detained upon returning to the United States after traveling abroad for his father’s funeral. The document states that Mr. Aly holds valid immigration status, has resided lawfully in the U.S. for approximately ten years, and has not been charged with any crime.

The resolution alleges severe medical neglect during his detention. It states that Mr. Aly was diagnosed with Stage 3 chronic kidney disease in early January but was not informed of the diagnosis for approximately two months, causing a “significant delay in treatment.” The LNC expressed concern that the condition could progress to Stage 4, which would require dialysis. The resolution further claims Mr. Aly has only seen a doctor once since being detained, despite recommendations for follow-up appointments.

As a direct result of his prolonged detention, the resolution asserts Mr. Aly has been evicted from his home, had his personal property discarded, and lost custody of his pet.

In addition to calling for Mr. Aly’s immediate release, the LNC’s resolution urges all party members and affiliates to support his case through public advocacy, community solidarity, and contributions to his legal defense fund.

The final vote was confirmed by LNC Secretary Evan McMahon. LNC Chairman Steven Nekhaila and eleven other committee members voted in favor of the resolution. Committee members Bryce Thon and Ben Weir voted against it. According to the official vote tracker, Mr. Weir initially voted in favor before changing his vote to “No.” Two members abstained, and one did not vote. The measure passed the required 3/4 threshold for adoption.

Resolution:

WHEREAS, Islam “Izzy” Aly is a lawful and peaceful resident, an electrical engineer, UCF graduate, business owner, and an active supporter in the liberty movement;

WHEREAS, Mr. Aly was detained by the Department of Homeland Security when returning to the United States on December 22, 2025 after traveling abroad due to his father’s passing.

WHEREAS Izzy Aly holds valid immigration status and has maintained continuous lawful residence in the United States for approximately ten years, and has been charged with no crime;

WHEREAS, Mr. Aly has been held for a quarter of a year, far from home, in a detention center alongside hundreds of other detainees;

WHEREAS, Mr. Aly was diagnosed with Stage 3 chronic kidney disease in early January, yet was not informed of this diagnosis for approximately two months, causing a significant delay in treatment that could allow the condition to progress to Stage 4, requiring dialysis;

WHEREAS Mr. Aly, like many other such captives, should not be unjustly held by the state, especially to the detriment of his health;

WHEREAS, Mr. Aly has only seen a doctor once since his captivity, and only due to a medical emergency. Like other captives, he has not been taken to follow-up appointments despite medical recommendations to begin treatment;

WHEREAS, Mr. Aly has been evicted from his residence, had personal possessions discarded, and lost custody of his pet – all through no fault of his own;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Libertarian National Committee calls for the immediate release of Izzy Aly and other political captives;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Libertarian National Committee condemns the inhumane, unjustifiable actions of I.C.E. and the D.H.S., and calls again for their abolition;

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Libertarian National Committee urges all members, affiliates, and allies to support captives such as Mr. Aly through public advocacy, community solidarity, attendance at organized protests, and through direct support to their legal defense.
