WASHINGTON — Trisha Butler, the Chair of the Liberal Party USA, made several statements on social media regarding the actions of ICE agents in Minnesota. The Liberal Party USA has not yet issued an official statement on the matter.

In one post, Butler wrote, “The federal government is killing Americans in our streets.” In another, she made a statement regarding healthcare workers and Border Patrol agents.

Butler also reposted statements from other political figures. On January 24, she shared a quote from Minnesota Governor Tim Walz which referred to the federal presence as an “occupation.” The previous day, she reposted a statement from Justin Amash which said, “Follow the Constitution. Uphold the Bill of Rights.”

Butler is the chair of the Liberal Party USA, a classical liberal political party formed as an alternative to the national Libertarian Party. The organization was founded after the 2022 Libertarian National Convention, where members of the Mises Caucus were elected to leadership positions, causing a shift in the party’s direction.

Following that convention, the state libertarian parties of Massachusetts and New Mexico disaffiliated from the national Libertarian Party. A splinter group also formed in Virginia. These groups established the Association of Liberty State Parties in December 2022. In early 2024, after merging with the Keystone Party of Pennsylvania, the organization officially became the Liberal Party USA.

For the 2024 presidential election, the party nominated a ticket of Laura Ebke for president and Trisha Butler for vice president, which received 859 votes nationwide. The Liberal Party USA held its first national convention in Houston, Texas, from December 6 to 8, 2024, where Butler was elected as the party’s first permanent chair. The party has affiliates in states including Massachusetts, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

While the Liberal Party in an official account has not commented on the matter, and indeed had not commented on any state of affairs on its social media accounts since Veteran’s Day 2025, the New Hampshire Classic Liberal Party, an affiliate of the Liberal Party USA, has issued statements criticizing New Hampshire House Majority Leader Jason Osborne on his stance on the death of Alex Pretti.
